| How screwed is our Deaf Community? |
After observing vlogs and blogs at DeafRead and other section in world wide web portal. I feel that I need to give all of you pointers on how screwed our usage of words or sign language. I will list words or expressions below and explain its meanings. pah deaf bilingual Deafhood My comments: I just threw in pah as what have been using in express of "about time" Looked it up on its definition and was surprised it even has meaning, and that is a negative word out there, no wonder they snickered at us or looked us like we are crazy or something like that. Bottom line here is that DBC and Deafhood DOES NOT mix at all, they can build bridges across for references not use one of each other for rally, protests, meeting, and more. DBC in past 11 months did it's wonders BUT have they come up with one clear mission or value of the organization? I do not think so. They solely erected the organization for early childhood exposure with sign language which was influenced by "The Greatest Irony" by Amy Cohen Efron. DBC and its core members forgot one important issue at hand, focus on the Deaf Community not fighting with/ or against AGBell. It is like needle in a haystack. It is best to focus on our issues and build from there, what I am trying to say is to forget AGBell and grow as one not divided in ourselves which we already have. There was an article or vlog about a Deaf family who won a lawsuit against hospital somewhere in Canada or US (information is being pursued) that the parents won their rights to eliminate the hearing part of their baby to become deaf. I, myself have mixed feeling about it. That will divide even more in the community, for example... "Deaf parents with deaf kids hanging out at playground encountered another deaf parents with hearing kids and rejected them because they didn't cut the nerves inside their children ears" Have you ever thought about it. Just not long ago our community were against the process of hearing parents having cochlear implants being inserted in their children, now we are practicing what they have been doing. Ironic?
